Douk-Douk 1929 Folding Knife
The classic Douk-Douk pocket knife was created in 1929 by M.C. Cognet for the French colonies in Oceania. The name Douk-Douk comes from a Melanesian spirit-god, which is engraved on the handle. The knife didn’t really catch on in Oceania, but it became very popular in North Africa
The idea behind the Douk-Douk knife was to create an easy-to-use, easy-to bring, and tough everyday knife that anyone could afford. The original, brilliantly simple design is the same today as it was almost 100 years ago, with only 6 compenents:
The knife is still made by the Cognet family (now in its third generation) and with only 10 people involved in the production.
