NEW! SELVEDGE WORK JEANS 1940 These selvedge jeans from our friends at Fleurs de Bagne are inspired by 1940s work pants, with a fairly high rise, large patch pockets and a wider leg. And, of course, suspender buttons and a back tab for that authentic greaser look. While moleskin is the traditional material for French workwear, denim has always had its place (not least as uniforms for French railway personel). After all, denim is arguably a French invention, believed to have received its name from ”serge de Nîmes”, a twill-like fabric made in Nîmes in southern France. In a fustian, extra yarns (picks) are inserted into the weft (the left to right yarns in a loom), creating a very tight and dense weave. The weft picks are then cut and the fabric brushed to raise a fuzzy nap.
