Allons enfants!

France has a long tradition of worker’s wear – maybe the best one. And no wonder. French workers, craftsmen and farmers have, famously, no problems with making demands.

That’s why the jackets have re-inforced lining, for carrying nails and screws without them poking through. The shirts are so tightly woven that welding sparks just bounce off. And the striped wool sweaters have extra tight cuffs to prevent the arms from gliding up when you’re gathering in the fishing nets.

As a happy bonus you get durable, no-nonsense, beautiful clothes which have long since stepped out of seasonal fashion – because they never stepped into it.

THEY ARE BACK! A true classic in French workwear, this wool jacket was originally developed by Le Laboureur for a nearby foundry, where the metal workers needed a jacket that would protect from both the outside cold and the heat in the foundry. Le Laboureur based the model on the traditional French, blue workjacket, but constructed it in wool, which would insulate from both cold and heat. Also, wool does not burn, which is quite practical when you work with molten metals. The jackets were made in Burel wool, which has been used since the Middle Ages for cloth which needed to be extra hard-wearing. Burel wool comes from the ancient, tiny and rare Ouessant sheep, which very likely could have gone extinct had it not been for Le Laboureur. The original brown and sand coloured jackets are still made in un-dyed Burel wool – from brown and sand coloured sheep. And today, Le Laboureur also makes this iconic jacket in several other colours, in other French, dyed wools. We love it for its clean, elegantly minimalistic and functional design. As an overcoat it will keep you warm, dry and for the rest of you life.
