Bontemps Derbies – Black
This timeless, five-eyelet derby from Manufacture Bontemps is made entirely in their workshop in Nantes using only French materials and genuine, hands-on craftsmanship.
The full-grain calfskin, rubber sole and contrast stitching are complemented with a toe cap and round laces, giving these derbies a hybrid work/dress character. Wear them with your favorite jeans and overshirt – or pair them nonchalantly with a wool suit.
- Construction
The derbies are sewn with a double sandalette welt – no glue or welding. The sandalette welt is a somewhat forgotten alternative to a Goodyear or Norwegian welt and is just as robust and impermeable, but lighter and more flexible. This also makes the shoes easy to repair and maintain at any skilled shoemaker. - Leather
Oiled full-grain calfskin from Alsace. Flexible, impermeable, and durable. - Thread
Spun in France by shoe thread maker in business since 1848. - Soles
Produced in the Allier and molded from a specific blend of natural rubber. Tested in use by the French army. - Laces
Round laces in organic cotton and weaved on 19th century wooden looms. - Maintenance
Fit the derbies with shoe trees when not in use to retain shape and avoid creases. Wipe off when worn. Nourish regularly with a good quality cream and brush gently to revive the leather.
