Chambray is a lightweight cotton fabric known for its softness, breathability and durability. Like denim, it is woven with one colored thread (usually blue) thread and one white. But unlike denim, chambray’s is much lighter but still strong enough for workwear. It has excellent airflow, making it an ideal warm weather shirt.

Chambray’s comfort and durability made it a staple in French and American workwear. In the early 1900s it became a part of the U.S. navy standard uniform.

Today chambray is one of those timeless classics that moves effortlessly between the workshop and the board room. Pair it up with a tweed jacket and a tie and you’re off to teach philosophy at the Sorbonne.
