L’Usine Bleue Hunting Jacket

Based on a 1930s French cold-weather hunting jacket that Vincent found in a vintage store in Paris. We changed what needed changing. Which wasn’t much, really.

Most of the original features remain: The large game pocket in the back, meant to carry your catch and lined with inverted, water-repellant waxed cotton. The unusual sleeve construction, designed for wide freedom of movement. The wrap-around collar, made to be turned up when the weather turns down.

The shell is a very sturdy waxed cotton (410 g) from Halley Stevensons in Scotland, who have been making weather-resistant fabrics for generations. The waxed cotton keeps the weather out and gains beautiful character with age. (Re-wax it once in a while.)

Inside, a wool and cashmere lining and an extra layer of padding keep you warm and snug even in the meanest of European cold months.

These jackets traditionally had brass button, often with a raised hound motif. Not something you will find in your local button store! So we went to Artmetal in France.

Founded in 1840 and still a family business, they are recognised as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) for their exceptional traditional know-how in working and stamping metal. Their archives contain thousands of historic designs. And some of their original tooling dates back to 1829. Using traditional techniques and historic tooling, Artmetal produced new brass buttons for us. Hounds included.

Design and construction is done in collaboration with our friends and skilled French craftsmen at Hervier Productions. Their long expertise and experience with clothes made for demanding use and environments is second to none.

The first production run is limited to 50 jackets. One is staying with Vincent. (We suspect the game pocket won’t carry pheasants, but rather bottles of Chablis and a large Camembert.)

The remaining 49 are for you. All individually numbered.
